Shalom yall!

I use a lot of different materials in the classroom that I’m always being asked about, so I’m going to try something new: introducing Revi’i Reviews! Every Wednesday (Yom Revi’i, hence the title), I’m going to review/recommend a Hebrew learning or Hebrew language app, game, or website suitable for early learners (preK-1st), or Hebrew learners in general. I loooove Apple products, but there are some great Android apps, so my reviews will definitely include both. So let’s jump right in with my first review of the Apple app Psanter L’qtantanim פסנתר) לקטנטנים) – Piano for Little Ones.

I found this app while searching for child-friendly piano lessons for my Kindergarten student, and it’s a fantastic introduction to the world of musical notes and piano playing. Psanter L’qtantanim features an 8-key keyboard, and 14 Hebrew and English songs (4 in the free version).

Each song is broken down by syllable and given a music note, and the keys are also labeled, so children can practice playing the songs, note by note, until they’ve mastered them. It’s a simple app, really, but my kindergartener LOVES it, even if he insists on playing with one finger lol. Enjoy the 30-second video below of him practicing Hayom Yom Huledet (the Hebrew Happy Birthday song).

(The musical note button plays the whole song, so players get to hear the pace and melody as often as they need to.)

I do wish that when the song is played via the musical note button, that the letters and/or keys would light up as each note is played. I think that additional visual would enhance the learning experience by helping players to remember the notes a bit better. I’d also love to have a wider song selection, but overall, Psanter L’qtantanim gives me my money’s worth. It’s definitely one of the best things I’ve ever purchased with $2!

Todah for reading, and don’t forget to check back next Revi’i for another review!
