Yom Kippur fell in the middle of the week, so we spent lots of time using our Middot scale and doing related activities. We also made soap, representing how Yom Kippur cleanses our souls the way soap cleanses our bodies. In terms of our Israel study, the boys learned about the Dead (Salt) Sea, identifying it on a country map, watching a couple of YouTube videos, and then mimicking its properties through an egg float experiment.
We’re on our third theme, centered around the book Hadag Shelo Ratsah Lihyot Dag (The Fish Who Didn’t Want to Be a Fish), and our focus letter is Tsadi. We’re doing the usual – fine motor skills work, mini books, pattern blocks, etc., – along with story-related activities, like matching letter stickers to letters on a fish to create scales. Next week we’re going to do an activity with feathers, and have some food fun with raisins and yellow fruits (bananas, lemons, and pineapple).
